There is a very common business principle known and used by sales people. It’s called reach and withdraw. Let’s say a car salesman is trying to sell a car to a very resistant prospect. As he continues trying, trying, trying to sell the car you could say that he is reaching. He is trying to sell the prospect, he is trying to reach the prospect but he is having no luck.

The salesman has a gut feeling the prospect is interested in that particular car, because of the sparkle in the prospects eyes, so he keeps trying to sell the car but the prospect continues to display “sales resistance” so the way to handle the situation is to suddenly withdraw from the prospect.

Give up on the prospect. Do a complete reversal and say “I don’t think this car is for you.” The prospect, so used to having the sales person reach and reach and reach is startled and will say, “huh what do you mean this car isn’t for me?” The prospect, who deep down really is interested in the car, will actually be disappointed that the salesman has “given up on him” and will now reverse the flow and start reaching for the car and for the salesman even trying to get the salesman to keep trying to sell him.

The salesman, who can see that the prospect is now reaching, can even continue the withdraw by insisting the car isn’t for the prospect. The prospect will end up selling the car to himself.

This sounds absolutely crazy but this is actually how we are all hardwired. And don’t be thinking you are any different because you aren’t. If you are a human being like it or not this is how you are hardwired. Well this can be used by men who are baffled by the mystery picking up women.

Well there is a very big talk show host on the radio in Southern California by the name of Tom leykis that “teaches men how to get more tail for less money” as he always puts it. It’s actually a male oriented show that is syndicated all around the U.S. You may have heard him on the radio.

His whole deal is to be a jerk to women and be proud of being a jerk and wear the jerk badge proudly because this is what women respond to. I’m not going to say he’s wrong because he isn’t. What he is actually teaching is the withdraw. I don’t think he even know he teaching men to “withdraw” but that is what he’s doing.

Being a jerk or not giving a damn is a withdraw. The car salesman that suddenly doesn’t give a damn whether you buy or not is doing a withdraw.

The problem with Tom Leykis is he only teaches the withdraw part of reach and withdraw. And to be most effective you need both sides of the coin, the reach and the withdraw. You reach and withdraw, reach and withdraw.

You can use this principle on anything, even physical things. You are trying to open a jar of peanut butter but the lid will not come off no matter how strong you are and how hard you try. Try reversing the flow. Go the other direction. Try to tighten the lid and now try to open the lid and it will immediately open.

Try it when you change a flat tire where the lugs won’t move. Reverse directions and try again it will immediately come lose. Some people will say yea but you just broke it lose. Well it still works and it works with people too.

You use reach and withdraw in selling and with women. It will suddenly take out the mystery picking up women. You reach and withdraw, reach and withdraw and when you see your prospect starting to reach just lean back (yes physically lean back) and let the prospect continue to reach and then you’ve made yourself a score.

The way he meets them in the first place is he will sit next to a beautiful hot smoking lady in a bar and promptly ignore her. She being a hot smoking babe that know every man in the place is drooling can’t help but notice the man next to her that is completely indifferent and that is the one she will start reaching for and talking to.
